Let’s talk about investment pieces, beautiful things that can last you a lifetime. They are expensive, make a strong statement piece, can become treasured heirlooms or even kept as a collection for years. Before you make these investments, do your homework, find your passion, but most of all, buy the item because you know you’ll be proud to use it. Here’s our honest opinion on timeless luxuries that are worth your hard-earned cash and love.

Designer handbags

The classic designer handbag is an exclusive collectible item. In recent years, investment in handbags have outpaced rare artwork and cars. By 2027, the market is expected to reach $100 billion compared to today’s $72 billion. Bags such as Hermès, Chanel and Louis Vuitton, saw its valuation spike by an average of 80% in the last 10 years. What we’re seeing today are collectors, resellers, dealers and the wealthy coveting the luxury handbag market. Although buying a luxury handbag is expensive, retail experts agree that you save money in the long term as brands like Valentino Garavani and Dior often hold their value, therefore, making these purchases good investment. Research has also shown that the Birkin bag is expected to double in value in the next decade.

Gem brooches

Throughout history, we’ve seen famous brooch wearers; such as the inherited heirlooms in the British royal family. One of the infamous brooches is Queen Victoria’s giant sapphire Prince Albert brooch. Over time, brooches have evolved, shedding their reputations as being old and reserved for older women. They’re no longer associated with grandmotherly figures, as we see how they’re worn by celebrities, where Timothée Chalamet was spotted wearing a vintage ruby and diamond Cartier, pinned to his Prada bomber. Historically worn to secure clothing, there’s no set rules for wearing a brooch today. They can be worn in unexpected places, from your lapels to a slinky dress or to cinch the waist of your skirt. Alternatively, they can take a different direction, one that is more quirky by wearing it right in the centre of a bright-coloured bow tie.

Silk scarves

Luxurious designer scarves are great at transforming any outfit or bags to give it the extra edge, or you could look chic with one round your shoulders or neck.  Branded silk scarves from Hermès, Christian Dior, Prada and Louis Vuitton feel incredible on the skin, allowing you to create a style of your choice. They’re soft, breathable and lightweight, and with a huge range of patterns to choose from, you could opt from classic motifs such as equestrian and military to bolder designs that include animal prints and timeless monochromes. Luxury fashion houses sometimes collaborate with an artist or designer to release a specific design and they are high in demand, often attracting a cult-like status. As a result, they will retain their value into the future. If you’re one who loves combining fashion with contemporary art, then this will be a beautiful item to add to your collection.

Luxury watches

Investing in a luxury watch is no longer exclusive to the old boys club. Beautiful, classic timepieces appeal to both genders at different ages and stages in their lives. Women are often attracted to elegant timepieces while men have shown to favour finely engineered technology. Rolex for instance, is a worthy luxury watch investment. Its famous models such as Daytona,  Day-Date and GMT-Master II remain at the top of the list. If you’re an investor and want to diversify your traditional assets, investing in a Rolex watch, known for its scarcity and collectability, is a smart move.
