Samoa, also known officially as the Independent State of Samoa is a Polynesian island country made up of two major islands (Upolu and Savai’i).
Samoa is a popular tourist destination well known for its visual arts, dance, style of music, cuisines, and waterfalls. Indigenes of the country are friendly (approachable), nice, and highly talented—they can be found in all corners of the world. Samoa has its own fair share of celebrities; people who have shown outstanding performance in the entertainment industry.

If there’s any list of famous Samoan Hollywood celebrities, the list would be incomplete if Dwayne Johnson’s name was omitted. Dwayne Johnson also popularly known as The Rock was both a professional WWE wrestler and college football player before landing his role in the movie titled “The Mummy Returns” in 2001, so he has always been in the spotlight.
Dwayne Johnson was born in the city of California (US) to professional wrestler Rocky Johnson and actress Ata Johnson. Although he’s no longer into playing football or professional wrestling, he’s currently dominating the Hollywood (movie) industry; playing key roles in movies like Doc Savage.

Have you heard the song “let’s do it again”? I’m sure must have; J Boog is the genius reggae singer behind this TikTok viral song. Although J Boog was born and raised in California, he is of Samoan descent. He is currently a top reggae artist in Hawaii, the country where he currently resides to pursue his music career.
Jay Laga’aia
Jay Laga’aia is a Zealand-Australian singer and actor. He is popularly known internationally for the role he played as Captain Typho in Star Wars episodes II and III. Jay currently appears in Australian Children’s called Jay’s Jungle broadcasting since 2015 and also a regular feature in Play School an Australian kids program.
Jay Laga’aia was born and raised in South Auckland, New Zealand but is currently a dual citizen (New Zealand and Australian). Jay is of Samoan descent, has six sisters and brothers and two half brothers.
KJ Apa
Kaneti James Fitzgerald Apa popularly known as KJ Apa is a New Zealand actor, musician, and singer born on 17 June 1997, in Auckland, New Zealand to Tupa’i and Tessa Apa (née Callander). KJ Apa’s mother is a European New Zealander while his father is a Samoan and a matai (chief) of his village in Samoa.
KJ started acting in 2013 when he played the role of Kane Jenkins in the New Zealand primetime soap opera Shortland Street. Since that time, he has starred in several other series and movies like Riverdale (2017), The Hate U Give (2018), and I Still Believe (2020).
Nathaniel Lees
Nathaniel Lee is an actor and director of Samoan descent popular known for the role he played in The Matrix Revolutions, The Matrix Reloaded, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and for starring as Chiron the centaur in Young Hercules. Nathaniel Lees won director of the year at the Chapman Tripp Theatre award in 1995 when he directed the play ‘Think of a Garden’.
