As parents, we pay more on the possible dangers rather than the advantages of video games played online however, these games are a common element of modern-day childhood.

If you are aware of what to look for games that are video-based, they can be an effective way to aid children in developing specific life abilities. They can assist parents in choosing appropriate games for their leisure time, assist teachers find ways to improve classes, and aid game makers develop games that help instruct. Recently I wrote a paper titled “Children’s Motivations for Video Game Play in the Context of Normal Development” which was published in Review of General Psychology.

The study included findings of studies I conducted in the Harvard Medical School and survey information gathered from interviews with more than 1,000 pupils from public schools. From my study I have listed eight reasons why playing video games are beneficial to your child’s development and education.

Video games can help children’s brain development. As my child was just a tiny adult I was watching him play Legend of Zelda games. He was required to search and negotiate, think, and experiment with different ways to progress. A lot of recent games like Bakugan: Defenders of the Core are based on solving problems and planning.

“Modding,” the process through which players modify game characters’ appearance and create new game levels, provides creative self-expression and a thorough understanding of the rules of play and their structure and innovative ways of highlighting interests and personalities.

Games that are played on the internet don’t have to be classified as “educational” to help children make choices and use strategies, anticipate the consequences and show their personality.

The contents of certain video games may encourage children to read and study. Games like Age of Mythology, Civilization or Age of Empires may spark an interest in geography, history ancient civilizations, as well as international relations, particularly when parents are aware of opportunities.

According to researchers David Shaffer and James Gee, “When children have parents who help turn Age of Mythology into an island of expertise, tying it to books, Internet sites, museums, and media about mythology, cultures, and geography, the children pick up a wide range of complex language, content, and connections that serve as preparation for future learning of a highly complex and deep sort.”

Additionally the games usually allow children to create and share maps or other customized content that help them develop the skills of a designer and having fun. Also Read: How to Make Wood in Little Alchemy?

Contrary to what their parents, the majority of young youngsters view video games as a form of social interaction that is not a separate one. Video games provide a common place for children to meet new people;

let youngsters to socialize and have a structured time with their friends. Our research revealed that the boys are more inclined to engage in video games with their peers, either in the same space or on the internet.

Additionally, boys of all ages said games were often the subject of conversation with their friends One boy said that his schoolmates typically talked over “girls and games — the two Gs.” Our research revealed that children who had mild learning disabilities were more likely to pick “making new friends” as one of the reasons they played video games.

My own research revealed that the players (specifical boys) discussed learning new moves through sports video games, and then rehearsing these moves at the court for basketball or skateboards. A few were drawn to the new sport after they were exposed to them by video games. Also Read: How to Make a Cloud in Little Alchemy 2?

A boy shared during a focus group on research, “In the games that are real, which are mostly the sports games, you see them do amazing plays. If you go outside and try them and keep practicing, you could get better.” Studies have shown that playing authentic sports video games (excluding fights in tournaments) can lead to a greater time being active and playing sports in real everyday life.

It’s common and healthy for children particularly boys to play with their peers when they compete for fame and status. In my research and focus group studies of young teenagers, “I like to compete with other people and win” was among the top motives for playing video games particularly for boys. Video games can be an excellent way to let out the competitive side of you and offer children who may not be good at sports the chance to shine.

When kids engage in video games with other children it is common for them to play a rotating role of leading and following depending on the particular skills required for the game.

Based on research done by Nick Yee of the Palo Alto Research Centre, adolescents who played games with their friends online believed they had developed leadership abilities, such as convincing and motivating others as well as mediating conflicts. Online multiplayer games provide teens with the chance to be part as a leader and occasionally lead an all-ages, diverse team. No matter what age you are when you are able to guide the team to success.

An experiment that was published in Creativity Research Journal revealed the connection between some videos and creative thinking. The 353 participants played Minecraft without or with instruction, watched a television show or played a race-car game.

Researchers found that the players who played Minecraft without instruction performed the subsequent tasks with the highest creativity, possibly due to the fact that they were allowed the most room to think independently during play, the researchers believe. A majority of the children that we studied admitted to playing video games because they enjoyed teaching other players how they play. The father of one boy stated during our study, “Most of the interaction my son has with his buddies is about solving situations within a game. It’s all about how do you go from this place to that place, or collect the certain things that you need, and combine them in ways that are going to help you to succeed.”

Certain children are”the “go-to” kid who knows how to win the toughest elements of the game. The act of teaching others develops the skills of communication and social interaction as well as a sense of the ability to be patient.
